Learn to Love a Kindle
as much as the Library A Kindle, otherwise known as an e-Reader, is a device that you can read books on and do so much more with. For instance, with your library card, you can download eBooks to your Kindle through eLibraryNJ (a collection of eBooks provided by our consortium) and Hoopla (a website that allows users with a library card to login and borrow materials including eBooks and more).
Both eLibraryNJ and Hoopla are accessible through our website (dowdell.org). Moreover, you can also download eBooks by using eLibraryNJ’s app (called Libby) and Hoopla’s app (also called Hoopla). It is important to note that on eLibraryNJ you can checkout up to five eBooks at a time and can keep the titles for three weeks.
Once you have downloaded your eBooks, you can organize them on your Kindle into collections by going to the home screen of your Kindle, then by tapping “create a collection”, and then by giving it a fun name such as “books I want to read over and over again”. Then, to add or remove a book from your collection, tap and hold a book, and then tap “add to/remove from collection”. Want to take notes while you are reading? Highlight the text to remember your favorite parts of the book you are reading. Both fiction and non-fiction are available.
There are so many different kinds of Kindles to best suit the type of reader you are. For instance, the Kindle Paperwhite has a very simple design with a paper like display which is great for someone who gravitates more towards reading physical books and is looking to try a Kindle out.
There also is the Kindle 11th Generation which is the least expensive Kindle and the smallest is great if you are a reader who is always on the go and is looking for a Kindle that will fit in their bag. The Kindle Oasis is the oldest model of the Kindle, but it is also the largest which is ideal for someone who prefers large print books.
Lastly, the Kindle Scribe is the most expensive of all the Kindles, but it has an incredible writable surface which is great for taking notes while reading. While each type of Kindle has its pros and cons, the one aspect all of the Kindles have in common is that you can download eBooks from the Dowdell Library using eLibraryNJ or Hoopla.
