Guide to Using eLibraryNJ eBooks on your Kindle

Instructions for Kindles with built-in Wi-Fi:

  1. Connect your device to the local Wi-Fi network
  2. Go to www.eLibraryNJ.com in a web browser
  3. At the top of the webpage, click Sign In, choose Dowdell Library of South Amboy, and input your Library Card # (leaving off the last number)
  4. Browse the site for the book of your choice.
  5. Click on Borrow, and then choose Go to Bookshelf. Next to the title, click on Download, then Kindle Book, and then Confirm & Download. Next, on the right hand side of the screen, click on Get Library Book. Sign in with your Amazon ID and password, click Sign In, choose the correct device, and finally Continue.

Instructions for Kindles without built-in Wi-Fi:

  1. Plug your Kindle device into a computer, and launch Adobe Digital Editions. You may need to install this free software if it is not installed on the computer.
  2. At the top of the window, click on Library, then Authorize Computer, input your Adobe ID, and click Authorize. You may need to create a free account. You can do so by clicking Get an Adobe ID online.
  3. Go to www.eLibraryNJ.com in a computer web browser
  4. At the top of the webpage, click Sign In, choose Dowdell Library of South Amboy, and input your Library Card # (leaving off the last number).
  5. Browse the site for the book of your choice.
  6. Click on Borrow, and then choose Go to Bookshelf. Next to the title, click on Download, then Kindle Book. Next, choose Confirm & Download, and then click on the downloaded file.
  7. Finally, drag the book icon in the library from the bookshelf to the device name in Adobe Digital Editions. This will transfer the book from the computer to the Kindle device, and you can now begin reading your rented book.
