Drones: An Inside Look into this Versatile Vehicle
Drones, otherwise known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’s for short) have the ability to perform a wide variety of tasks that can include delivering your groceries and saving victims of avalanches. Whether the impact is big or small, drones can do it all!
So, you are probably wondering, what is this unmanned aerial vehicle that is capable of doing so many amazing things? Well, to answer your question, “a drone refers to any aerial vehicle that receives remote commands from a pilot or relies on software for autonomous flight.” There are four main types of drones: the single-rotor helicopter drones, multi-rotor drones, fixed-wing drones, and fixed-wing hybrid VTOL drones.
While drones have become an integral part of mainstream society, drones were actually developed with the purpose of strictly being used for the military and aerospace industries. In fact, the British and United States militaries used some of the very first drones to spy on the Axis powers in the 1940’s. Today, drones are used for military and aerospace purposes and for so much more including videography, search and rescue, agriculture, and transportation uses.
PC magazine wrote an article on the “Best Drones for 2024” where they rate many different kinds of drones and outline the features they have. The first drone they mentioned was the DJI Mini 3. This is a lightweight drone with nearly 40 hours of battery life and includes a 43KO video camera. This drone is an ideal product for not only newbies to drones, but also more advanced drone users.
Another drone they discussed, also made by DJI, was their Mavic 3 Pro. This drone has three cameras all with midrange 3x lens to ensure excellent picture quality. Moreover, this drone includes obstacle sensors and remote for the drone with a built in screen. Lastly, the article discusses the DJI Air 2S which includes video up to 5.4K quality and a 1 inch sensor camera, both of which are features that makes this drone ideal for photographers.
PC magazine rates all three of these drones 4 out of 5 stars.
