- Then click “If you have an ID.me account, use it to sign in” at the top of the page. Use your newly created account to sign in to begin verifying. The system may require you to use multi-factor authentication
If you do not have a computer or smart phone, there are several One-Stop Career Centers throughout the state has computers available if needed.
Once you have created your account, there are three different options to verify your identity with ID.me: self-service, video chat, or in person. For all methods, you must have a photo ID (Driver’s license, state ID, passport or passport card) and your Social Security Number. Sometimes more documentation is required. Once you have chosen which method you would like to use to verify, select it on the screen and proceed. This will help you use the self-service option to verify.
Option 1: Self-service
Self-service requires you to upload your documents and self-record a video in order to verify. To do so, use of a mobile phone or computer with a camera is required. If you do not have one of these, computers can be used at one of the One-Stop Career Centers. The system will guide you through the process.
- Select “Self-Service” as your verification method.
- Select the identity document you want to use (driver’s license, passport, etc.).
- To upload your documents, you must use your phone or computer to take a photo of it. Make sure that the photo is clear, in the center of the screen, and the ID is the only item in the photo.
- Self-service requires you to record a short video of yourself. Select “Start” when you are ready to record. Be sure that you are the only person on screen and try to choose a plain background. Like the photo, you wanted to be centered and clear.
- Select “Start liveness detection”. You may need to select “Allow” to grant permission to your camera.
- Wait while you see the “Processing video selfie” screen. The system will tell you if your video has been accepted or if you will have to try again.
- Enter your phone number and social security number when prompted.
- Review all information for accuracy, the select “Yes” to confirm.
- Select “Allow” to share your information with the necessary organization (ex. NJDOL).
Once you are done, you will receive a confirmation email confirming that your documents have been approved and that you may begin certifying.
